Bill Cunningham, born in 1929, is a fashion photographer and street style photography pioneer.
His career in fashion starts as a fashion writer for the Chicago Tribune. In the meantime he starts taking snaps of street style in the streets of New York, focusing on clothing as means to express personal style. In 1978 he begins to publish his photos on the New York Times in his own column called “On the streets”. Noted for his impartiality, Cunningham takes photos of both ordinary people and celebrities. If you want to know more about him, we recommend the documentary “Bill Cunningham New York” by Richard Press: it will be worth it, Cunningham really is one of the most incredible and talented people in the fashion world.
